Sir Tom Jones returns to The Voice UK coaching panel on ITV after losing his spot on the BBC1 version... and can't wait to get started
Sir Tom Jones is about to return The Voice UK and sounds like a man who has a score to settle.
He was controversially removed from the coaching panel for the last series of The Voice on BBC1, but is back on the panel now that the show has switched to ITV.
He told What’s on TV he was pleased and excited to be back: “I mean, it wasn’t my idea to leave in the first place. It was the powers that be. But I’m glad that the public were upset about it… and the ratings went down.”
Sir Tom also believes the move to ITV has a better chance of finding a true Voice UK singing star.
He said: “The difference this year, because a lot of people are like ‘We haven’t got a star!’ and I feel the record company has a great deal to do with that, and this time the record company are hands on from day one, so they want as bad as anyone else to find a star.”
What is his approach to securing the best singers in the new series? “First of all I offer them experience cos I’ve been around longer than anyone else on this show. I don’t think any contestant will come with you if they don’t like what you do. They’ve got to like what you do and respect it…
“If I was a young contestant coming on this show I’d want me to coach me, because look how long he’s been around, look at the people he’s worked with, look at the experience he can give me, so… I would vote for me!”
