Taken 3 | DVD review – Liam gets in a lather in soapy action thriller sequel

Taken 3 - Liam Neeson

Departing from the formula that made the earlier instalments in the wildly successful Taken franchise such guilty-pleasure hits, Taken 3 unwisely saddles Liam Neeson’s ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills with some tiresomely soapy drama involving his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) and ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) before they allow him to dust off his black-ops skill set and do what he does best: lay waste to bands of shifty foreigners. And that only happens after a corpse turns up in his Los Angeles apartment and he ends up framed for murder.  But when he goes on the run to clear his name and nab the true perpetrators, he evades the combined forces of the CIA, FBI and LAPD with such ease that for all its shootouts, explosions and hair’s breadth escapes the film never generates any real suspense.

Taken 3 is out now on Digital HD and on DVD & Blu-ray on Monday 15th June from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Certificate 12. Runtime 109 mins. Director Oliver Megaton.
