Poldark bosses reveal a MOVIE could follow the fifth and final series

Our prayers may have been answered…

Poldark is set to air its fifth (and sadly final) series tonight – but if executive producer Karen Thrussell gets her wish, we may seen a movie of the Cornish drama hitting cinemas in the future.

Karen has revealed that stars Aidan Turner, who plays Ross Poldark, and Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays his wife Demelza, may find themselves portraying their characters on the big screen.

“It has crossed my mind. I think you could do a couple of two-hour films to finish off the books,” Karen said.

“I’d see it coming back on TV if we’re going to do a Poldark six. But it does look good on a big screen.

“I’m always amazed at the quality of the picture and sound and how beautiful Cornwall looks at the screenings.”

Poldark

If Poldark the movie gets the green light, it would follow in the footsteps of ITV period drama Downton Abbey, which ended its TV reign in December 2015, but has been turned into a feature film with a release date in September.

Speaking of the last day of filming series five, Karen revealed to the Mirror: “Eleanor was in tears the last day on set. Then I suddenly burst into tears.

“I think that made Aidan a bit teary. He shed a tear in a very manly way.

“Everyone took something to remember their time on the show. Aidan kept his famous hat. He also took the kitchen table and the benches.

“I said to him, ‘Would you like the sink as well, Aidan?’”

Aidan Turner as Poldark in series five

Meanwhile, Poldark star Aidan gave TV Times some background on the new series and his character: “He’s grown up a lot and has a better sense of responsibility,” said Aidan.

“He’s still impulsive and he has a natural attraction to menace, but I think all round he’s a better person.

“He’s certainly kinder to Demelza!”

Poldark airs tonight, Sunday 14 July at 9pm on BBC1
