Mindscape | Film review – Mark Strong’s memory detective is left in two minds by troubled teen

Mindscape - Mark Strong as memory detective John Washington

Mark Strong is full of haunted intensity as a widowed ‘memory detective’ who enters the mind of a troubled 16-year-old girl (Taissa Farmiga, sister of Vera) to find out whether she is guilty of an appalling crime in patchy psychological thriller Mindscape. The two leads are excellent, and their scenes of mental sparring keep us in puzzled suspense. Is she a victim of abuse or a clever sociopath? Who is manipulating whom? But the clunky script and variable American accents (most of the cast are Brits) occasionally break the film’s spell.

Certificate 15. Runtime 97 mins. Director Jorge Dorado.

Released on DVD by StudioCanal.
