Mary Berry gets a roasting from environmentalists

Beloved TV cook Mary Berry typically sparks an outpouring of warm and fuzzy feelings for people watching her cookery shows while commenting on social media.

From noting her glam hairdo and ever-present Hermes belt to wanting her to be their actual grandmother, it’s all super positive.

However, during last night’s episode of BBC2’s Mary Berry’s Foolproof Cooking (Monday 29 February), the Bake Off star managed to rile some viewers for her suggested method of prepping a cauliflower for roasting…

In her recipe she added the heads of cauli to a freezer bag with olive oil already in, zipped it up, and gave it a good shake to get the veg covered.

“You could do this in a bowl but on the other hand someone’s got to wash up the bowl and we’re all in for saving time,” Mary told viewers.

Uh oh.

Although some sections of the Twitterati were not happy all was soon back to normal with the various Mary Berry grandma wishes…

The cauliflower-gate section came just after she was celebrating veg boxes and just before she revealed she plays a weekly game of tennis “with the girls” sparking a flurry of #lifegoals.

It seems Mary’s still in “national treasure” territory.
