1989 Meet the McDonalds. Simon told TV Times: "Charlie and Bev taught me so much - they were my drama school. Before I had kids, Bev and I used to go out a lot and we're still really good friends. I'm also in touch with Charlie. Nick and I had a riot when we came in as these wayward twins. We couldn't believe we were actually getting paid to do that stuff!"
1990 The twins steal a digger! Simon said: "I was disappointed because they only let me start it and I was desperate to drive! But on another occasion I got in a big truck and drove it off. The director was shouting at me to get out! It was so funny, little me driving a huge wagon."
1990 Steve's first screen kiss. "I was so nervous," explained Simon. "The actress, Tanya Rodrigues, was playing a teenager, Joanne Khan, but in real life she was in her 20s, which made it even more terrifying. As we did the kiss, the director was saying, "Come on, boy - get on with it!". I needed some training."
2000 Jez Quigley visits Steve in hospital. Simon said: "Steve was beaten up badly by Jez (a brutal drug dealer played by Lee Boardman), but the cuts and bruises were all make-up. The worst bit was these dogs Jez had. One of them weighed 11 stone and I was really scared. It was an inch from my face!"
2004 Tracy tries to ruin Steve and Karen's wedding. "I hate filming weddings and this one went on for four days, but we were pleased with the results," explained Simon. "Steve's relationship with Karen (Suranne Jones) is one of my favourites - I loved all that shouting!"
2007 On holiday in Malta, Steve kisses a transvestite. Simon said: "When I found out they wanted me to snog a bloke, I said 'No way!' They wanted a full-on kiss, but I finally agreed to a chaste one. It makes me laugh when I look at the pictures because, although my face was close to his (Anthony Berry, who played Shania), my body was in another country!"
2008 Steve woos Michelle (Kym Marsh). "This was epic," explained Simon. "With Kym, I did so many scenes where I was in the background of the pub, I had to throw something in - that's how the gurning was born."
2009 Steve marries Becky. Simon said: "I liked Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky, as soon as I met her. I just knew that a relationship between Becky and Steve would work. For me, it's up there with his marriage to Karen."
