Kat and Alfie will soon be back in their long-awaited EastEnders spin-off

Whatever happened to Kat and Alfie's spin-off series set in Ireland? Don't worry, the popular EastEnders characters will be back on our screens very soon!

It has been over a year since we last saw Kat and Alfie in EastEnders. The pair left Albert Square to go in search of Kat’s secret son Luke, who they believe is living in Ireland.

Fans will finally out if a family reunion is on the cards for Kat and Alfie when their long-awaited spin-off series Redwater starts on BBC 1 in May. The six-part drama will see the pair far from Walford as when they arrive in the fictional Irish village of Redwater and begin to realise the residents are hiding a dark secret…

“I can’t tell you how exciting it is. It’s a real, dark story,” Shane Richie has said. “When I was reading the script, I kept thinking half-way through that Kat and Alfie have to get out of this village but they don’t. It’s a stand alone drama and nothing to do with EastEnders except for that it’s Kat and Alfie. A whole new universe has been created.”

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like there are any plans for Shane and co-star Jessie Wallace to return to EastEnders once Redwater ends. Jessie is co-starring with ex-Holby City star Paul Bradley (Elliot) in the thriller stage play, Deathtrap, which opens in Brighton in September. Meanwhile Shane is also on stage in Not Dead Enough, in which he plays a detective investigating the case of a man who allegedly murdered his wife.

“Being asked to play the role of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace was such an honour,” Shane tells Sunday Post. “I’ve been friends with Peter James, the creator of the character, for a long time and he said I was the only person he wanted to do it. There’s talk now of taking it forward, perhaps into television.”
