Emmerdale star Asan N'Jie is 'devastated' after being fired from the soap following a clash with Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas...
Emmerdale actor Asan N’Jie has been sacked from the soap with immediate effect after an incident between him and Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas at an awards ceremony on Monday night.
Asan, who has played Emmerdale’s Ellis Chapman since September 2018, reportedly swore and threw punches at Jamie, and apparently had to be separated twice during the evening.
Asan was at the bash, which was being held at London’s Hilton Park Lane Hotel, because he had been nominated for a Best Soap Newcomer award, which he lost out to Kara-Leah Fernandes, who is better known as Bailey Baker in EastEnders.
ITV initially suspended Asan following the incident, but today ITV announced that the star would not be returning to Emmerdale.
A statement released by the channel said: “Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.
“ITV executives have met with him this morning, and as a consequence Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”
Asan has also commented, apologising for his behaviour towards Jamie Lomas… “My behaviour at the awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character,” he said in a statement.
“I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected, especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards.
“I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
