Is it time for Irene Roberts to confess the truth?
The Summer Bay legend has been on a downward spiral ever since she saved Bella Nixon from being attacked by her online groomer, Tommy.
After chatting to Tommy online, Bella found herself in serious danger as he visited her at home and tried to attack her… only for Irene to thankfully arrive home just in time.
But as Bella and Irene struggled to get rid of Tommy, he begged the women to keep his attack to themselves, telling them it would be ‘their little secret’.
But unfortunately for Tommy, those words triggered a long-buried memory for Irene who was also sexually assaulted when she was younger, with her own attacker using the same words as Tommy’s.
Irene saw red and lashed out at Tommy, hitting him over the head and landing him in a coma in hospital.
But while the rest of Summer Bay think Tommy is the victim and was attacked by a random stranger, little do they know what Tommy is really capable of and that it was actually Irene who beat him half to death.
The police have got enough evidence to charge Tommy with his crimes, but that doesn’t mean that Irene is off the hook, and as the Summer Bay rumour mill continues to go into overdrive, Irene has been hiding herself away from the world.
Leah is worried when Irene refuses to leave the house, and even Willow can’t get her to open up about what’s happened.
Leah is convinced that if Irene explained everything, especially about her being the victim and not Tommy, then everyone would understand.
But Irene is adamant that she doesn’t want anyone to know her secret past.
As Willow tries to get Irene to open up by organising a friendly dinner for everyone, Irene can’t go through with it in today’s Home and Away and she hides in her room, away from all her friends.
But as Irene breaks down crying alone in her bedroom, will she ever be able to find the strength to face what happened to her all those years ago?
