Casualty star Charles Venn reveals his surprise Strictly reunion!

Casualty star Charles Venn stars in Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream with TWO Strictly Come Dancing favourites TONIGHT!

Whenever we learn any of our favourite continuing drama stars are working on a new project, we can’t help but worry a little. When we heard that Casualty actor Charles Venn is appearing in Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream, we had to find out more…

Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream is a modern love story about a boy from Britain and a girl from Russia who fall in love. It opens tonight and runs for four shows at Saddler’s Wells. Charles plays dance coach Richard Porter. Information about tickets available here

Here we have a quick catch-up with Charles Venn, who plays nurse Jacob Masters, about taking a break from Casualty to work alongside Neil and Katya Jones on Somnium…

When does Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream open?

CV: “The first performance is on tonight at Saddlers Wells in London. It’s really exciting!”

How are rehearsals going?

CV: “They’re going really well. We’re geographically mapping everything out on the floor and the dances are amazing. I’m really enjoying it.”

You’ve reunited with Strictly Come Dancing’s Neil and Katya Jones for the role!

CV: “Yes, and it’s incredible. Being involved in this is bringing back fond memories of Strictly. It’s great to be playing such an eccentric character – he’s actually based on a real person.”

This means you’re taking a break from Casualty?

CV: “At this particular point I was very blessed and fortunate to have a slight gap in between the dates that Somnium is taking place. So my Casualty producers said: Yes, you can do this play!”

So you’re definitely not leaving?

CV: “No, I’m not leaving – there’s still more of Jacob’s story to tell!”
[WOTV Aside: Phew!]

How great are Casualty to give time off for other projects?

CV: “They’re really wonderful! If it’s feasible and an actor isn’t filming particularly heavy storylines at that point, they’re very open to the idea. That’s the generosity of Casualty…”
