Lost in Paris | Burlesque beanpoles Abel & Gordon go to town with whimsical slapstick

A touch of Tati.

Eccentric comic duo Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon, aka Abel & Gordon, go to town with their elaborately choreographed slapstick for the typically whimsical movie Lost in Paris.

Stringy beanpole Gordon plays gauche small-town Canadian librarian Fiona, who enjoys a series of farcical scrapes when she travels to Paris to visit her elderly aunt (French screen legend Emmanuelle Riva in one of her final roles). The aunt goes missing; Fiona falls in the Seine and loses her belongings; and mischievous tramp Dom (Abel) keeps getting in her hair.

Abel & Gordon’s brand of mime-like physical comedy won’t be to all tastes, but lovers of Jacques Tati will warm to their antics, while others will probably detect touches of Chaplin, Keaton and Harold Lloyd in there as well.

Certificate 12A. Runtime 83 mins. Directors Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon

Lost in Paris available on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital from Arrow Academy.
