Ian Beale returns to Walford and finally faces his son Bobby, Mel Owen continues to scheme against Jack Branning and Jay Mitchell makes a shock discovery.
Kathy Beale has already given absent son Ian Beale an earful for not getting in touch about his son Bobby Beale’s return from prison.
Ian finally returns from his four-month trip to New Zealand visiting eldest son Peter Beale but his reunion with the recently released Bobby is awkward.
Ian’s half-brother Ben Mitchell intervenes and suggests they all go to The Vic to celebrate. Bobby’s presence causes a stir in the pub, however, especially when a glowering Max Branning sees him.
As the situation starts to get out of hand Bobby gets support from an unexpected quarter. Bobby can’t deal with the animosity and runs home, insisting he wants to be left on his own.
Mel Owen is grateful when solicitor Gray Atkins is supportive as she prepares for son Hunter Owen’s sentencing. To take her mind of things, she returns her focus to her revenge plan against Jack Branning as they talk about investments.
When Jack gets a call to say that daughter Amy Mitchell is sick, a scheming Mel offers to look after her. Left alone, Mel secretly goes through Jack’s bank statements. Jack’s brother Max Branning unexpectedly returns home and Mel’s forced to cover, agreeing to go for a drink. In the Vic, Mel and Max kiss, with Max’s jealous ex Rainie Branning looking on.
Undertaker Jay Mitchell finally realises how loaded girlfriend Ruby Allen is and feeling overwhelmed he tells brother Ben Mitchell he thinks Ruby is out of his league.
With the knowledge about her money in his head, Jay feels uncomfortable when Ruby suggests she take them both out to dinner.
Also, Sonia Fowler’s suspicious when her uncle Jack Branning asks how her niece Tiffany Butcher is doing. Habiba Ahmed argues with sister Iqra Ahmed over their gran Mariam Ahmed’s plans to find her a husband.
